Cat Cards was born from a simple observation: while browsing greeting card stores, we noticed a surprising lack of high-quality, creative cat-themed cards. Sure, there were a few generic options, but nothing that truly captured the personality, charm, and endless entertainment that cats bring to our lives.
As cat lovers ourselves, we wanted to create something different—cards that cat people would actually be excited to send. Cards that celebrate the quirky, lovable, and sometimes absurd nature of our feline companions. Whether you're sending birthday wishes, offering an apology (on behalf of your cat, perhaps?), or just saying hello, we believe every occasion deserves a purr-fectly crafted card.
Cat Cards is also an experiment in modern e-commerce and AI-assisted creativity. We wanted to explore how artificial intelligence could help us rapidly prototype and create a diverse catalog of cards, while still maintaining artistic quality and emotional resonance. This project sits at the intersection of love for cats, appreciation for thoughtful greeting cards, and curiosity about what's possible with AI.

Every card in our collection is inspired by the three furry troublemakers who share our home:
Merry
Tuxedo Cat
The life of the party. Merry is the most social of the three, and loves to be the center of attention. Affectionately nicknamed a 'wrecking ball', she lives by the motto 'what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine too'. Call a spcific cat? Merry arrives. Filling a specific food bowl? Merry arrives. She is also the most vocal of the three, and loves to meow while trying to burrow through solid surfaces. She also has an addiction to heating pads and will bully us until she gets what she wants.
Pippin
Chartreux
The sweet, innocent, perpetually frightened victim of Merry's 'fun'. Though he can be elusive because of how scary the world is, his favorite activity is following us around and randomly collapsing on the floor expecting pets but waiting patiently for them. This has led him to be almost stepped on more than just a few times. He also makes a decent gargoyle when perched on surfaces to avoid the frightening toys on the ground.
Samwise
Russian Blue
The sophisticated gentleman of the group. He holds his head high and allows the younger cats to be first in line for food and attention. He can get jealous occasionally and finds serenity in his cardboard box full of paper. He is also very addicted to butter and will do everything in his power to get any sort of junk food he can find, including but certainly not limited to cheesecake, chips and coffee ice cream.
These three have taught us that cats are equal parts chaos, comfort, and comedy—qualities we try to capture in every card we create.

AI Features
Yes, all our card designs start with AI-generated images. However, "AI-generated" doesn't mean "unedited" or "low quality."
Here's our quality process:
- We generate 50-100+ variations per card concept
- Only 1-3 images make the initial cut
- Selected images are edited to remove AI artifacts and imperfections
- Every card is tested at print size (300 DPI) for clarity
- We reject cards that don't meet our standards—even after 100+ attempts
Bottom line: AI is our tool, but human curation and quality control ensure every card meets professional standards.
Our AI breed swap feature lets you change the cat breed on select cards while keeping everything else the same (background, pose, style, text).
How it works:
- Choose a card with a single cat (multi-cat cards aren't supported)
- Scroll down to "AI Breed Swap" and select your desired breed from the dropdown
- Click the "Generate AI Customization" button
- AI generates a new version with the same composition but a different cat breed
- Preview the result and save it to "My AI Creations" if you like it or send it directly to your cart
Pricing: AI breed-swapped cards cost an additional $2.00 per card (only charged if you purchase)
Limits: User account required with 20 free AI generations per day per user to prevent abuse
Note: Results may vary. AI breed swapping is still experimental, but we're constantly improving it!
Our AI holiday overlay feature lets you add a holiday-specific accessory to the cats in the cards while keeping everything else the same (background, pose, style, text). Overlay features are only in effect leading up to various holidays throughout the year. Specific dates can be found in "Seasonal Holiday" events on the "What's Coming Up" page
How it works:
- Choose a card to customize
- Scroll down to "Holiday Accessories" and select your desired accessory from the dropdown
- Click the "Generate Holiday Card" button
- AI generates a new version with the same composition but with a new holiday accessory
- Preview the result and add it directly to your cart if you like it
- You can add or remove holiday overlays from non-AI breed swapped cards in the cart
Pricing: AI holiday overlayed cards cost an additional $1.50 per card (only charged if you purchase)
Limits: AI Holiday Overlay cannot be added to a card that has already been edited with a different AI feature

Our AI breed swap and holiday overlay features currently only work on single-cat cards.
Why the limitation?
- Breed swap: The AI needs to identify and replace one specific cat. With multiple cats, results become unpredictable—wrong cats get changed, or changes are applied inconsistently.
- Holiday overlays: When adding accessories like Santa hats or bunny ears to multi-cat cards, the AI often misses one or more cats, leading to inconsistent results.
What counts as "multi-cat"?
- Cards with two or more different cats
- Cards where the same cat appears multiple times (like comic strips or mirror reflections)—the AI sees each appearance as a separate cat
Even some single-cat cards may have mixed results:
- Cats in unusual poses or positions (upside down, extreme angles)
- Cats wearing clothing or costumes that obscure their natural features
- Highly stylized or abstract art styles
How to identify single-cat cards:
- Use the "Filter by Cat" dropdown and select "Single Cat"
- If the AI options don't appear when customizing a card, it's classified as multi-cat
We're working on improving AI support, but for now we've limited these features to ensure you always get quality results. If a generation doesn't turn out well, you can always try again!

- Custom message: Add the same personalized message to every card
How it works:
- Select your cards for the bundle
- Expand the "Customize All Cards" panel
- Choose your color, message, or leave blank option
- Click "Apply to All Cards"
Smart features:
- New cards you add will automatically get the same settings
- AI breed swaps and holiday overlays are preserved when applying bulk settings
- Use "Reset All to Defaults" to start fresh
- You can still customize individual cards differently using the pencil icon
Look for the badges (color, "Blank", "Msg") on your selected cards to see what customizations have been applied!
Yes! You have several options for modifying bundles in your cart:
Edit Bundle (full editing):
- Click the green "Edit Bundle" button on any bundle in your cart
- You'll return to the bundle builder with all your cards pre-selected
- Add or remove cards, change the bundle size, or modify customizations
- All your existing settings (messages, colors, AI images, overlays) are preserved
- Click "Update Bundle" when done—your cart will be updated automatically
Replace a single card:
- Click "Replace" on any individual card in the bundle
- Choose a different card to swap in
- The new card inherits the same settings (color, message) as the original
- Your bundle discount is preserved
Edit individual card details:
- Click "Edit" on any card to change its paper options, inside color, or message
Note about overlays: If you replace a card that has a holiday overlay, the overlay will be lost since it was generated specifically for that card. You'll see a warning before confirming.
Pro tip: When editing a bundle where all cards share the same color or message, new cards you add will automatically inherit those settings!

You have 30 minutes after payment to cancel for a full refund. Simply click the cancellation link in your order confirmation email.
After 30 minutes: Orders cannot be cancelled as they're submitted for printing immediately to ensure fast delivery.

Damaged or defective cards: We'll replace or refund any cards damaged in shipping or with printing defects. Contact us within 7 days of delivery with photos.
Changed your mind: Cards are custom-printed to order and cannot be returned for buyer's remorse. Please review your customization carefully before ordering.
Our error: If we printed the wrong message, color, or design due to our error, we'll reprint and ship a replacement at no charge.
Our guarantee: We stand behind our quality. If you're not satisfied with your order, contact us and we'll work with you to make it right.
Custom photo cards: Not at this time. Our AI tools work best with stylized illustrations rather than converting photos into card designs, but we are considering adding this feature in the future.
Custom card concepts: We're open to suggestions! If you have an idea for a card design or occasion we're missing, contact us. We can't guarantee we'll create it, but we love hearing what customers want.

Behind the Scenes: Our Creative Process
Creating AI-generated greeting cards is surprisingly challenging. Each card you see went through an extensive process:
1 Concept & Prompt Engineering
First, we brainstorm card concepts—what occasion, what cat scenario, what emotion we want to capture. Then comes the tricky part: writing AI prompts that actually produce what we envision. After an idea is generated, we use a Copilot Agent to refine the idea into a clear prompt. Even though the prompt is written for AI by AI, it can take many iterations per card. A typical prompt is several paragraphs long and includes specific instructions for the AI to follow regarding the scene, art style, cat, mood, lighting, background, and more.
Challenge: AI models often misinterpret instructions, add unwanted elements, misunderstand the structure of text, or miss the emotional tone entirely.
2 Generation & Selection
We generate dozens of variations for each card concept, carefully reviewing each one. Most get rejected for:
- Anatomical errors (extra paws, wrong eyes, tail-like limbs, etc.)
- Style inconsistency
- Text that looks wrong or is unreadable
- Missing the emotional mark
- Generally looking "off" in ways hard to describe
Reality check: On average, only 1-3 out of 50 generated images are good enough to become cards.
3 Refinement & Quality Control
Once we find a promising image, we test it at print size (5x7 inches at 300 DPI). We check for:
- Resolution quality (does it look crisp when printed?)
- Color accuracy (will it print true to what we see on screen?)
- Composition (does the design work with inside message placement?)
- Emotional impact (does it make us smile, laugh, or feel something?)
Cards that pass this stage get added to our catalog.
4 Message Crafting
Each occasion-related card gets one or multiple message variations for different occasions, depending on the versatility of the card. We use a custom Gemini Gem to generate a few greeting ideas and then we edit and rewrite these to be funny without being cheesy, heartfelt without being sappy, and uniquely feline.
5 Technical Implementation
Behind the scenes, we've built a custom Django backend that handles:
- Dynamic card customization (paper types, colors, messages)
- Bundle builder with smart discounts
- AI features (breed-swap and holiday overlays)
- Print-ready PDF generation with bleed and CMYK color profiles
- Checkout process with secure payment processing and real-time shipping integration with carrier options
